If you are considering switching or optimising your supplementary health insurance in Switzerland, now is the time to take a closer look. For many policies, the ordinary cancellation deadline is the end of September. But rather than focusing solely on premiums, there is a more important question: how well protected are you when your health suddenly becomes the priority?
We plan our finances, invest for the future and increasingly think about longevity, prevention and healthy ageing. Yet at Caveo, we regularly see people who have invested significantly in their financial future while leaving surprisingly little flexibility in their health insurance coverage.
For us, that does not add up.
Health is Wealth. If you invest in your long-term health, your insurance strategy should reflect the same level of foresight.
Switzerland’s mandatory health insurance provides a very high standard of basic medical care. Supplementary hospital insurance is therefore not primarily about whether you receive treatment.
It is about choice, access and flexibility.
If your financial situation allows it, we believe it is worth considering at least semi-private hospital cover.
Not because of the two-bed hospital room.
But because you may want to preserve as many options as possible when it truly matters.
Depending on the insurance product, semi-private cover can provide broader hospital choice, greater flexibility in selecting the treating physician and additional benefits during a hospital stay.
When you are healthy, these differences may seem secondary. In the event of a complex diagnosis, surgery or prolonged treatment, however, having greater freedom of choice can suddenly become highly relevant.
That is why we do not view supplementary health insurance as a luxury. We see it as part of thoughtful financial and life planning.
Longevity is about more than exercise, nutrition, sleep or the latest health tracker.
It is about increasing the chances of living a long and healthy life while creating the structures that preserve your options if your health does not go according to plan.
That is where Health & Wealth come together.
At Caveo, we approach health protection in much the same way a family office approaches wealth: not as an isolated product, but as part of the bigger picture.
We review your basic insurance, deductible, insurance model and existing supplementary cover. In many cases, we find structures that have evolved over time without ever being reviewed as a whole: unnecessary benefits, inefficient combinations or premiums being spent in areas that provide limited real value.
And this is where it becomes interesting:
Better coverage does not automatically mean significantly higher costs.
By intelligently optimising your overall health insurance setup, it may be possible to generate savings elsewhere. In some cases, these savings can offset a substantial part of the additional premium required to move from general to semi-private hospital cover. Depending on the individual situation, the upgrade can even be close to cost-neutral.
Whether this is possible depends on your age, place of residence, current insurance structure and personal circumstances.
That is why an individual review is often far more valuable than a simple online premium comparison.
For many supplementary insurance policies in Switzerland, a three-month cancellation period applies before year-end, making 30 September an important date. However, deadlines can vary depending on the insurer, product and contractual terms.
Even more important:
Never cancel your existing supplementary insurance before your new insurer has confirmed your acceptance in writing.
Unlike mandatory basic insurance, supplementary insurers are not obliged to accept every applicant. They may request health information, apply exclusions or reject an application.
A well-managed switch is therefore not about cancelling quickly.
It is about improving your health protection strategically.
We do more than compare health insurance premiums.
We analyse which level of health protection fits your lifestyle, expectations and financial situation – and where unnecessary costs can be reduced at the same time.
Our goal is simple: more clarity, better protection and greater freedom of choice when you need it most.
Have your health and supplementary insurance reviewed by Caveo.
We will show you where you stand today, where there is potential for optimisation and whether you can improve your coverage without paying unnecessarily higher premiums.
